Chris Brown's Request Denied Again, Singer Must Report To Court

Despite claims of the singer being paranoid over death threats, Brown will be required to report to court next week.

The California Supreme Court won't stand in the way of a preliminary hearing for R&B singer Chris Brown, accused of assaulting and threatening pop star Rihanna. At its weekly conference this morning (June 17), the high court decided not to intervene in the case, which could see Rihanna take the stand against her former beau. Brown's lawyer had asked the justices to postpone the June 22 hearing to consider whether a Superior Court judge was correct in denying a defense request for access to internal police files. He was also denied a delay earlier this month.

Brown lost a bid to delay a preliminary hearing in his assault case, which his attorney argued should wait for a related California Supreme Court decision. Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, filed an appeal earlier this month to try to delay the R&B singer's preliminary hearing, now scheduled for June 22. Court records show the appeal was rejected Tuesday (June 9); no reason was given. (Billboard)

Rihanna was subpoenaed yesterday (June 9) to testify in the assault case against her boyfriend Chris Brown, her lawyer told People. The 21 year-old singer is scheduled to appear at a hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 22. The 20 year-old Brown has entered a plea of "not guilty" to two felony counts stemming from the alleged assault on Rihanna that took place on February 8. (Entertainment Weekly)

The singer broke his silence on the dispute earlier this month via an online video.

"I don't do all this talking on the thing, it's just some new stuff I'm doing," Brown said. "I just wanna say 'What up' 'cause I ain't been out there in a minute, but new album gonna be coming soon, we working on it right now. It's called Graffiti, it's got everything on it. Y'all be ready for that. I'm about to drop a single this summer for y'all, so you know, we ain't going no where. Everybody's that's haters, they just been hating. All my real fans, I love y'all. Brown is scheduled to appear for his hearing Monday, June 22 in California.
