Jay-Z, Drake, Method Man & Redman Ignite Summer Jam 2009 Stage

Jay-Z, Drake, Lil Kim, Maino, Method Man and Redman surprised fans Sunday (June 7) night at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert as unexpected performers for the radio station's annual event.

While initially only featuring slightly over a dozen headliners, this year's one night-only occasion was marked with non-stop performances.

"Here's Busta [Rhymes] all f*cking crazy," XXL Magazine EIC Vanessa Satten wrote from the event. "Jadakiss. Swizz [Beatz]' 'All Right, Okay'. The Ruff Ryder Movement will be back in effect in 2010...Ok, D-Block is over - time to take a break. Mary J [Blige]!!!! Method Man and Redman on stage...Young Jeezy...Jeezy brings out Drake. Crowd flips...'Best I Ever Had' Now 'Put On' Jay-Z on stage. Jigga. Hova. Crowd. Flipping. 'Death of Autotune' This is the death of autotune, moment of silence. T-Pain...Maino, 'All the Above.' Lil Kim." (XXLStaff's Twitter)

NahRight's Eskay also resorted to Twitter to describe his reaction to Jay-Z gracing the stage.

"Mary [J. Blige]>," he wrote. "@NahRight Yonkers running this sh*t as usual. Breaking: There is no more Giants Stadium, Jay[-Z] just leveled it. Jay's set = Cloverfield." (NahRight's Twitter)

Hot 97 radio personality Miss Info also updated fans on the concert performers.

"Wow, too many people watching, did you see Jay-Z," she wrote unmodified. "I didn't realize there's a limit of how many people can watch? I guess I'll shut it down and go tape Jimmy [Jones], Juelz [Santana] and his "single lady" dancers...@DJNessNYC Soulja Boy to go on now with Jimmy and Juelz." (Miss Info's Twitter)

Jadakiss, an original headliner, previously spoke on his preference to bring out surprise guests for the annual event.

"I always try to give one or two surprises," he said in an interview earlier this month. "I know they wanna see me. I just dropped a new [album, The Last Kiss], so I gotta keep the surprise guests to a minimum. I might give you Jazmine [Sullivan]. I might give you something nice and soft and something nice and hard. It's gonna be a good look, though. I feel real good about this one this year." (MTV)

Despite debuting last Friday (June 5) via Funkmaster Flex and Mister Cee, Jay was rumored to premiere his "Death of Autotune" at the concert even though he was not billed to perform.

Jay-Z will release his Blueprint 3 album on September 11 on Roc Nation with distribution through Atlantic Records, numerous sources have confirmed. A formal announcement is expected Sunday on New York radio station Hot 97 and at the station's massive Summer Jam concert in New Jersey at Giants Stadium. (Billboard)
