Rakim Recruited For Dr. Dre's "Detox" Album

Rap pioneer Rakim recently spoke on being chosen by Dr. Dre for an untitled Detox track and updated fans on their studio relationship upon his departure from Aftermath.

According to Rakim, he is not sure if his song will make the final cut for Dre's long-awaited project.

"What I do is just a little bit different than what Dre do," Rakim explained in an interview. "Creative differences [happened] as far as Dre makes his kind of music and I like to make my kind and you know, we ain't understand how different we was until we got in the studio and started working together. It didn't work out but hopefully in the future, we can do a little joint together...The last I spoke to him was, I had did something for him maybe it was a year ago when he just started putting together his album, I did something on one of the tracks but I don't know which songs are making his album but you know, big up to him. I haven't spoke to him since his son passed away." (Hard Knock TV)

The Doc recently promised the project's delivery for sometime in 2010.

"[I'm] only [working] on my album that I've been working on for the last ten years, that's it [laughs]," Dre said about what projects he is working on. "The Detox record. Hopefully I'll get it done by the end of this year and you'll hear it next year. Motivation and other things getting in the way, that's it [has caused the delay.]" (ABC News)

Game emerged earlier this month with an announcement of being in the studio with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg for the album.

"CAN U SAY "DETOX" ??? IN THE STUDIO WIT DRE & SNOOP. WE BOUT 2 MAKE ALOT OF PEOPLE MAD. RIDE WIT US OR GET RAN OVER ! AFTERMATH OR DIE !" (The Game's Twitter)

Rakim recently spoke on the records he made as an Aftermath artist.

"I think what it was that when we got in the studio, we realized how different we were when it came to making music. I got a grasp of that and told him I needed to come back to New York and start all over. He understood that.I think a lot of it is just gonna stay buried," Rakim explained in an interview. "All of it was in its rough stages. It wasn't like nothing was really, kind of finished off. Most of the songs we did, Dre didn't have nothing to do with. It was one of them things where I was working with some of the producers and then once we got all of that mashed out, Dre was supposed to go hard but we never got to that point. I think most of it will stay buried." (Hip Hop Game)
