Sir Luscious Leftfoot Delayed, Big Boi Blames Jive Records

Outkast's Big Boi recently discussed the constant delays of his solo album and collaboration project with Andre 3000, citing Jive Records as the main reason behind wait.

Still aiming for a summer 2009 release, Big Boi claims the label has been reluctant to place urgency into releasing his solo debut.

"Jive Records, man," Boi said, whose contract was adopted by Jive after Arista dissolved its roster in 2004. "You know what goes with Jive? Shuckin' and jivin'. And the fans have been thinking it's me and Dre. You can't work on music for two-plus years and just give it to a label and they just f*ck it up...It's like I'm indie right now, but they won't let us out the contract. The Clipse said it best [on 'Mr. Me Too'] when they said 'they weren't playing fair at Jive.' They don't want to spend the money, but the music's gonna make its own way." (Rolling Stone)

Along with verbal jabs, Clipse previously said their departure from Jive to Columbia was due to the internal problems.

"Everything is business," Malice said in an interview. "If we had our way, we would always be on Star Trak. But it's what's working for you and what's not. We just want good energy, and Columbia has both the urgency and the muscle." (Billboard)

Originally scheduled to drop last year, Boi spoke with SOHH about the concept behind his forthcoming solo release.

"The concept is basically the grown version of Big Boi," he said. "I came out on Southerplayalistic at 15-16 years-old, I was Big Boi. I've matured, I've been around the world and I have grown up, so now it's all about 'Sir Luscious Leftfoot,' the knight in rhyming armor is here." (SOHH)

The album will reportedly reflect the same style of music Outkast has been known to release over the years.

Sir Lucious is an eclectic album that highlights why hip-hop, and much of the world lovesOutkast. It's 17 tracks of sheer brilliance. Hip-Hop continues to be placed in a box, but Big Boi and Andre 3000 continue to break the musical mold with each musical project. These katsare not just rappers. That title alone is too limiting. They are musicians. There will be appearances made by T.I. and Jaime Foxx. (SOHH Atlanta)

Sir Luscious Leftfoot is currently scheduled to hit shelves summer 2009.
