Will Smith Suits Up For "Hancock 2" Sequel

Will Smith has reportedly been confirmed to star in the upcoming super hero-based film, Hancock 2, alongside actors Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman.

The film's director, Peter Berg, broke the news earlier this week at the Toronto Film Festival.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, Berg has said Smith and Theron will once again play immortal gods, who lose their powers when in each other's presence. The two must pair up to deal with a third entity. The actioner is expected to explore the 3,000-year-old world they're from, which was only hinted at in the first film. Bateman would return as the PR exec who transforms the image of Smith's boozy superhero. (Variety)

Earlier this year, reports landed online which suggested Smith would be taking on sequels for both 2008's Hancock and his 2007 hit, I Am Legend.

According to the New York Post, deals for both movie projects are near completion as the rapper-turned-mega actor begins to make his way back to the big screen. "He is ready to do both," a Hollywood insider told Post. "Producers are just trying to get Charlize Theron to sign on for the Hancock sequel." (The New York Post)

Smith is also reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming City That Sailed fantasy-based film.

Francis Lawrence may be reuniting with Will Smith for a fantastical drama titled The City That Sailed at Twentieth Century Fox. The director is developing the project, which is being produced by Smith's Overbrook banner, with an eye to direct. Written by Andrew Niccol, the studio picked up the spec in 2006, however, no deals are made for either Lawrence or Smith. Touted as a fantasy drama, the flick follows a street magician father and his daughter who reside on opposite ends of the Atlantic after circumstances force her to move to England. Her desire to be reunited with her dad is so strong that she causes the island of Manhattan to break off from the rest of North America and drift across the ocean. (E! Online)

Aside from the sci-fi based movies, Smith may soon re-unite with Martin Lawrence for a third installment of Bad Boys.

Columbia Pictures is developing a third version of the high-octane Bad Boys franchise, tapping Peter Craig to pen the screenplay. The hope is to have a script that would reunite director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. At this point, with the project in the early stages, none has a deal to return. (The Hollywood Reporter)
