Ali Shaheed Muhammad is a hip-hop producer and DJ who rose to fame with A Tribe Called Quest. Muhammad's solo debut, "Shaheedullah and Stereotypes," will arrive on shelves on October 12th, to be followed later this year or in the first quarter of 2005 by releases from Chip Fu, Kay and Sy Smith. Muhammad is also hoping to sign former Mint Condition member Stokley. All of those acts appear on "Shaheedullah and Stereotypes," which is dominated by live instrumentation.
The album is a wonderful mix of hip hop and soul, blended together beautifully. It’s the perfect chill out album, but it also has subtle energy, as shown in songs such as Tight which makes it an excellent hip hop album as well. The album seems split into two parts, with the first half being more hip hop, with Ali himself providing the vocals on tracks such
as Industry/Life, whereas the second half of the albums seems more soul with the vocals turning instead towards the beautiful voices of his female singers, of which Part Of The Night is a perfect example.
